Traditions from Around the World:

Birthday Celebrations from Great Britain

In Great Britain you would drink squash which is an orange or lemon flavored kool-aid made from syrup, rather than a powder.

They have cake with candles and chocolate biscuits. They might also have jelly and ice cream, which is gelatin with ice cream, which might be decorated with tiny balls of colored sugar.

    The official language is English.

Being given the key to the house was once considered an important sign of coming of age. This used to take place when some one turned the age of twenty-one. The young man who was given the key to the house was said to be given permission to come and go as he pleases and to stay out as late he liked.

Nowadays both sexes have more freedom at a much younger age.
